Help connect French Canadian churches with our persecuted family

As a church representative, you act as a contact person for Open Doors in your area, and share information about the situation of persecuted Christians in your own church and surrounding area. You can encourage your acquaintances to pray, as well as share and display Open Doors resources. 

Vision

Our vision is to share the story of the persecuted church across Canada, which includes our French-Canadian brothers and sisters. We aim to ensure high-quality translation that allow prayer partners to intercede effectively, inform supporters to the needs of the persecuted in effective manners and share stories of our brothers and sisters with new clarity. This includes our emails, major publications, social media and our website. We want to communicate clearly and accurately the reality that our family faces in suffering for their faith, raising awareness of a situation that demands the joint action of the Church and society.  

Responsibilities and Expectations

As a translation or correction volunteer, you will be expected to: 

  • Create clear, coherent, and accurate translations of English Open Doors Canada text, adapting the language and expressions to French Canadian to ensure effective communication.
    • Maintain a high level of attention to detail to guarantee grammatical and spelling accuracy, following established norms.
    • Collaborate with other volunteers translators and editors to ensure consistency in style and terminology used in translations. 
    • Meet established deadlines for delivering assigned tasks, managing time efficiently, and prioritizing tasks based on their importance. 
    • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of information handled during the translation or correction process. 
    • Familiarize yourself with the context and topic of the texts to ensure full and accurate understanding. 
    • Communicate effectively with Communications team to resolve questions, receive feedback, and collaborate on continuous improvement of the translation and correction process. 

Person Specification

  • Passionate for God and the persecuted church
  • Good knowledge of, and enthusiastic about, the ministry of Open Doors
  • Understands the importance of prayer, Bible reading, church participation and faith building
  • An active part of your church community

Competencies

Translation position:

  • High competence in translation or literature
  • Strong ability to translate, review, and adapt texts to French Canadian naturally
  • Knowledge and proper use of French-Canadian spelling and grammar
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Basic knowledge of word processors (Word or similar)
  •  A high level of French Canadian, including urban expressions. 

Style Correction position:

  • Ability to adapt texts to French Canadian
  • Good verbal and writing skills
  • Basic knowledge of word processors (Word or similar) 
  • Solid command of the language, including grammar, spelling, and syntax
  • Analytical ability to identify errors and inconsistencies in the text
  • Familiarity with typographic conventions, including correct use of capitalization, quotation marks, hyphens, etc.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, including typographical and formatting errors

Accountability and Resources

As a translator you will receive support and encouragement from the ODC Strategic Engagement Lead.

You will also have access to the Open Doors style manual and glossary of terms.
